Is there any “hotter” issue in the US right now than migration? Our new president campaigned on issues that appealed to religious voters and a majority of Catholics voted for him. But one of his issues was arresting or deporting anyone who’s arrived in the U.S. illegally, and also seriously curtailing legal immigration itself—which is beginning to happen right now.
How do we feel about this? And if our government won’t be helping “the stranger,” as Pope Francis is always urging Catholics to do, then is it even more the responsibility of parishes, religious organizations, and individuals to do so?
